Cable Hip Abduction
BASE MOVEMENT · HOW TO DO IT
Cable Hip Abduction
Start lighter and use less range than you think you need. The rep should stay smooth from beginning to end.
- 01Set up
Attach an ankle cuff to the outside leg, stand tall beside the cable, and hold the machine for balance.
- 02Move
Keep the pelvis level as you move the cuffed leg out to the side, leading with the heel.
- 03Finish
Stop before the torso leans, pause, and return the leg slowly without letting the stack pull you.

GLUTES & HIPS / 33
Cable Hip Abduction
Sets: 3 · Reps: 10–20 per side
Train the lateral hip directly without turning the movement into a side bend.
Short range: Short range means the target muscle finishes squeezed in its shortened position.
WHY IT EARNS A SPOT
Own the position,
then earn the load.
The working leg moves away from the midline and finishes with the hip abductors shortened while the cable supplies consistent tension.
